Mitt i natten kom vi fram efter att ha väntat över en timma på att anslutningsbussen (Ving) skulle köra oss till vårt hotell, Castello di Rodi. Uselt!
På morgonen kunde vi konstatera att hotellet var byggt lite som en borg. Centralt ett innetorg.
Den här trappan ledde till vårt rum. (Det fanns hiss)
 

In the middle of the night we arrived after waiting for the connecting bus (Ving) to drive us to our hotel, Castello di Rodi. Lousy!
In the morning we found that the hotel was built a bit like a castle. Centrally located was an inner courtyard. This staircase led to our room.
(There was a lift.)

På innegården fanns plats för samvaro. Här såg vi t.ex.. på storbilds-TV hur Sverige tog sig till final i Eurovision Song Contest. I baren längst in härskade Panos, vår trevliga barman.

In the inner courtyard there was room for togetherness. Here we saw, for example, on big screen TV how Sweden reached the final in the Eurovision Song Contest. In the bar in the corner rules Panos, our nice barman.

Runt innetorget fanns dessa nischer, där man kunde sitta eller ligga och dricka sitt kaffe eller kanske något starkare från baren.
 

Around inside the square were these niches, where you could sit or lie down and drink your coffee or maybe something stronger from the bar.

Utsikten från loftgången utanför vårt rum var inte fy skam. Massor av blommar. Och så hade man full koll på vad som hände på utetorget. Inte minst viktigt.
 

The view from the attic outside our room was nice. Lots of flowers. And then you had a full wiev at what was happening on the patio.
Not least important.

Rummet hade både stort kylskåp och vattenkokare, så man klarade sin egen frukost om man ville. En värmlänning vi träffade på hotellet kokade sina frukostägg i vattenkokaren.
Visste inte ens att det gick.

The room had both a large fridge and kettle, so you could make your own breakfast if you wanted to. A man from Värmland that we met at the hotel cooked his breakfast eggs in the kettle.
I didn't know it was possible.

Blomprakten från balkongen var magnifik. Massor av blommor vi önskade vi hade hemma.

Vi tog bussen till Faliraki fulla av förväntan. Vi blev grymt besvikna, snacka om turistfälla. Här en staty utanför en restaurang, antar det är en kopia av Helios eller kolossen på Rhodos som stod i inloppet till Rhodos hamn på 280-talet f.Kr.

We took the bus to Faliraki full of expectation. We were terribly disappointed, talking about tourist trap. Here a statue outside a restaurant, assuming there is a copy of Helios or the colossus of Rhodes which was in the inlet of Rhodes port in the 280's BC.

Det bästa med Faliraki var nog stranden. Perfekt att sitta intill med en avsvalkande pilsner.

The best thing about Faliraki was the beach. Perfect to sit next to and sip a cool beer.

Precis som på alla vykort har vi pekat ut vårt rum.  Nära till trappan till baren och nära till poolen. Vad som inte var helt ok var städningen. Annars var rummet helt ok.

As in all postcards we use the arrow. Here we live. The room was quite ok. Nice with the stairs to the bar and very close to the pool. What was not ok was the cleaning.

När man ger sig ut på promenad i naturen kan man undra hur befolkningen tänker. Inte lockar det att se att hela ön är en soptipp. Det finns sopstationer så varför förstöra sin största inkomstkälla, sin fantastiska ö?

When you go for a walk on Rhodes in nature you can wonder how the inhabtants thinks. It's not nice to see that the whole island is a dump. There are garbage stations so why destroy their biggest source of income, this amazing island?

En dag smet vi in på SunWing. Det var stort med massor att göra för familjen. Inget för oss. Men ett testbad var det värt.

One day we sneaked into SunWing. It was big with lots to do for the family. Nothing for us.
But it was worth a test bath.

Rhodos på Rhodos måste man naturligtvis besöka. Det gjorde vi också, flera gånger faktiskt. Vi kände inte igen oss fast vi varit här förut. Men det var kanske inte så konstigt. det var 42 år sedan, 1976!

Of course, we had to visit Rhodes City on Rhodes, several times actually. We did not recognize the city though we have been here before. But maybe that was not so strange. It was 42 years ago, 1976!

From the harbor we can see the main attraction of Rhodes, thefortress.

En annan symbol för Rhodos är hjortarna på pelarna i hamnens inlopp.

Another symbol of Rhodes is the deers on the pillars in the harbor entrance.

Befästning som tillsammans med hjortarna vaktar inloppet till hamnen, Mandraki. Inloppet där en gång kolossen på Rhodos stod, en 30 meter hög staty och en av världens sju underverk. Kolossen förstördes efter bara 50 år av en jordbävning.

Fortress that together with deer guards the entrance to the harbor, Mandraki. The entrance where once the Colossus of Rhodes stood, a 30 meter high statue and one of the world's seven wonders. The Colossus was destroyed after just 50 years of an earthquake.

Kyrkan från förra bilden är tagen framför Evangeliska kyrkan, men nu är vi inne i densamma. I Sverige har vi mest takkronor i mässing här är dom i glas.

The church from the last picture is taken in front of the Evangelical Church, but now we are in the same. In Sweden we have chandeliers in brass here they are in glass.

Kyrkorna är ett överdåd av guld och glaskronor ett måste i de grekiska kyrkorna.

The Greek churches have an overflow of gold and have large chandeliers of glass.

Åk med på en fisketur och fånga för oss helt okända arter. Frågan är väl, är den ätbar den jag just fångade?

Go on a fishing trip and catch us completely unknown species. The question is, is it eatable this I just caught?

Mitt i staden Rhodos ligger en fantastisk strand med detta berömda hopptorn mitt i viken. Den finns i alla fall med på många bilder från Rhodos strand.

In the middle of the city of Rhodes is this fantastic beach situated with this famous diving tower in the middle of the bay. It is in any case featured on many pictures from Rhodes beach.

Ute på piren kom vi rakt in i en Taekwondo-tävling eller rättare sagt uppladdningen till den. Vi såg inget svenskt lag men det här finska såg vi. 
Taekwondo är en koreanskt kampsport.

Out on the pier, we came straight into a Taekwondo competition. We did not see any Swedish team but this Finnish we saw. Taekwondo is a Korean martial arts.

Tre väderkvarnar alla utan vingar ligger också i hamnen. Men borde man inte köpa vingar för pengarna?

Three windmills without wings are also placed in the harbor. Should they not buy wings for the money?
