This time we
had ordered minibus from the airport to the hotel.
It was rather
exciting
when the taxi didn't arrive in time. We stood
there
wondering if/how we would get to the hotel.
|
Men sänggavlarna
handfatet. Men läget och priset var kanon.
This is how our hotel looked like. It is our balcony, the small at the
top right. The room was clean and tidy and the beds comfortable. But bed
ends were assembled with cable ties, connectors were loose, as well as
the faucet in the sink. But the loccation and the price was great. |
|
Check the handrails and fences in the Art Nouveau or as we say in
Sweden, Jugend. Here on the balconies around the backyard, we spent a
lot of time, when we were talking online with our children. The network
was not strong enough in the room for video calls.
|
If you are looking into the backyards you can find lots of different
styles of houses. There are lots of houses in Art Nouveau, which
is our favourite style. |
|
This is another backyard, with a different style. We could probably live
with a backyard in this style, too.
|
The first day, we would go to Rudas, a Turkish bath from 1550, but it
was only open to men, it was only on weekends it was for mixed visitors.
So we went to the market hall instead. On the way we passed Gellert and
Szabadság bridge one of the most beautiful bridges we know. |
|
In the not entirely blue Danube there are many boats. There are many
incredibly long boats. You can go sightseeing by day and night. Or why
not take a trip to Vienna and Bratislava?
|
As we said they are long, the boats. On the foredeck, it looks like a boule court, but we could be wrong.
|
|
So we went back to our favourite place in Budapest, the market hall. Yes
we know it's not the only one, but it's the biggest.
|
And in the market hall they have Panorama bar, a real oasis in the
crowd, with completely different prices than those we are used to in
Sweden. |
|
På övervåningen äter man med fördel lunch. Gott men trångt.
Upstairs you can eat your lunch. Good food but crowded. Plenty to choose
from, all it's really genuinely Hungarian.
|
Langos which is popular in Sweden comes from here, from Hungary that is.
Many types are available, this are dessert varieties.
|
|
Men vi tog en mer matig variant. Den var riktigt överfull med allt
möjligt.
Nästan klar....smaklig måltid!
But we took a more wholesome variety. It was really full of different
things.
Almost done .... now. Bon appetite!
|
Peppers of all varieties are the hallmark of Hungary. Other popular
things they sell to us tourists are Russian caviar and goose liver. |
|
Hungarian sausages are phenomenally good. A yummy salami or a tasty kolbász. There are so many varieties so it's really hard to choose.
|
Men grönsakerna
är inte sura utan glada!
The basement holds fish merchants and also soured vegetables. It seems
like soured vegetables are a favourite of Hungarian cooking. But
vegetables are not sour, but happy! |
|
A "must" we missed the times we have been here before, the synagogue,
which is said to be the world's second largest after New York.
In U.S. everything is supposed to be biggest...or?
|
In order to get into the synagogue you have to pay admission and put on
a cap. Ok it was nice to see, but not worth the price. |
|
Synagogan rymmer 3000 besökare blev bombad under 2:a världskriget. Först
efter kommunisttiden startade renoveringen. I synagogor finns inget kors
och allt är på hebreiska.
The synagogue who can accommodate 3000 visitors were bombed during World
War 2. After the communist era started the renovation. The synagogues
have no cross and everything is in Hebrew.
|
This is the tree of life, a memorial for all the Jews who died during
the Holocaust. |
|
Flera
restauranger serverar kosher mat i de judiska kvarteren.
Kosher means "appropriate" and in food context, "it may be eaten."
Several restaurants serve kosher food in the Jewish Quarter.
