When we finally landed at Atatürk Airport two and a half hours late awaited our transportation to the hotel. But when we arrived they had given us a room without windows, even though we emailed and said that not wanted such room. They promised us a new room next day and tired as we were we accepted this. We got a new room the following day and we were pleased. |

After sleeping a few hours, we went out to explore Istanbul. We ended up directly at Grand Bazaar, which was just above the hotel. It covers 61 streets and over 3,000 shops. |

We arrived the day before Christmas Eve, so a Christmas Card was supposed to be sent. We got the guard at the entrance to take a picture of us, while the men in the background giggled approvingly and gave thumbs up. |

Gold and silver seemed to be a great article, judging by all the jewelry stores. Here it is gold at the bottom and silver upstairs, or it is maybe white gold? |

They sell everything between heaven and earth. Prices almost like home. Some things you could haggle down to a good price. But then you had to fight hard, "I can buy anything if I get to bargain." |
Här mer neutrala i vitt. Lights and lamps in all shapes and colors, a domestic specialty. Here in a more neutral white. |
How do you choose a bracelet with so much to choose from is beyond me. |
A more unusual shop selling meerschaum pipes. We have stopped smoking, but if you shall buy a pipe you must choose one with a carved sultan. |
Lamps everywhere and in all colors. Here little more colorful and in different forms. We did not get a haggle willing Turk for a purchase. |
Sjalar med guldmynt och tofflor i massor. Passar nog bäst i ett harem. Och ett sånt har jag inget. Shawls with gold coins and slippers in plenty. Is probably best in a harem. And I have none. |
Being party dressed in Turkish means no restraint. |
How this goes together with the burqa or dark clothes and scarf for everyday we don't understand. Just look at the décolletage and headgear. |

Roadworks in Istanbul on a cold and bleak winter day. Lots of people who all worked hard. |
When it's cold, it's nice with a hot drink. It is made with orchid flour flavored with cinnamon and rosewater. Tastes a bit like Santa porridge. |
One need not go either hungry or thirsty there are plenty of "street food". Here they sell hot chestnuts and grilled corn. Tasty! |
Mycket populärt var ett vetebröd i ringar. Ganska gott men torrt. Very popular was a wheat bread in rings. Quite good but very dry. |
That the Turks were very hardworking people that we saw everywhere. They dragged and pulled on carts or carried big loads on their back. Their leg muscles must be on top, the whole town was built on a mountain. |
As you also can see on the last picture they are not afraid of overloading. |
Most women covered their hair, old and young. As this quartet with colourful scarves. |
Everything was sold on the street. Carpet Dealers carried their stock on the shoulders and offered such as prayer rugs to us tourists. The cheapest we were offered costing no more than about 20 SEK. |
The fact that Turkey is an Islamic country you can hear five times a day, when the Muadh-dhin called to prayer. Nowadays with modern technology, there were speakers everywhere. |
